I don’t know many Eastern artists by name, and I don’t really draw much inspiration from them, though I don’t argue that there are a lot of very talented people over there. There is one guy, however, that I do think about a lot. I might go as far as to say that he is my number one favorite artist.
Akihiko Yoshida is the man. His character designs for Final Fantasy Tactics are largely to blame for the absence of noses in my earlier stuff. I just stumbled on some hi-res stuff of his, and I thought it’d make for a pretty good post.

Damn, I used to have to do this all the time with carts, pity it did nothing.
Update: Just to clarify, carts would always work after I blew into them. It’s just that dust on the contact plates wouldn’t stop a game from loading. The whole thing is a bit of a myth I think.

I’ve had this book for a few months now, and I just thought it was interesting enough to share with you guys. In a nutshell, it’s a book of illustrations by Tolkien himself. It’s pretty interesting comparing what was going through Tolkien’s head as he wrote his mythology, and what you or I think of as we read them. I think my favorite would have to be Smaug. I scanned a picture of him so you guys can catch a glimpse of the all powerful, terrible dragon himself:
